Jubilate Deo (2010)
Winner of the BUMS Chamber Choir Composition Competition.
In my setting of the Jubilate Deo text, I wanted to portray the joyful and rejoicing imagery from the text coupled with the 'neo-gregorian' style that is often heard with modern settings of Latin texts.
The setting begins with a slow building chord, opening up through the sections of the choir before moving to the main motif of the piece; an energetic and rhythmic motif that is built up from fifths that symmetrically move towards and away from eachother, creating that past and familiar sound-world connected with the Church.
"...a delightful mix of crunchy clusters and rhythmic replies."
